"Dry not Sober: What is their success rate? "
by Toby Rice Drews
by Toby Rice Drews
To be considered to be 'dry'--------- there has to be NO ingestion of any mind-altering substances.
A person is still 'actively addicted' when not off all alcohol//mind-altering drugs.
*** One does not qualify to be called "dry drunk'' is he isn't 'dry'.... if he is not dry (off ALL mood-altering substances)........ then he is still 'just a drunk' 'just a druggie'..... etc.
The behaviors of a still-actively-addicted alcoholic//addict----- are going to be the same as the behaviors talked about in the "Getting Them Sober" books........whether the 'drug of choice'' is alcohol, xanax, etc etc etc..........with "variations on the same theme''.......i.e., if he was more violent with xanax, and if he is off xanax, but now drinking -------- he will exhibit other still-actively-addicted behaviors.
THE BRAIN DAMAGE CONTINUES WHEN STILL ACTIVELY 'DOING' SUBSTANCES.
AND THE AWFUL BEHAVIORS ARE A RESULT OF THE TOXIC BRAIN.
THAT DOES NOT MEAN HE DOES NOT HAVE OLD ISSUES.
BUT THOSE OLD ISSUES NEED TO BE ADDRESSED AFTER HE GETS ALL THAT TOXICITY OUT OF HIS BRAIN.
ELSE, IT'S LARGELY A WASTE OF TIME FOR ALMOST ALL ALCOHOLICS.
THERE WAS A CARTOON IN THE A.A. GRAPEVINE AROUND 30 YEARS AGO........THREE GUYS BURYING A BUDDY.......AND ONE SAID TO THE OTHERS, "YOU KNOW, HE WAS DOING SO WELL IN THERAPY! TOO BAD HE HAD TO DIE BECAUSE HE WAS STILL-DRINKING.''
